When your gaze found mine #lovepoem #surrealpoem #poetrydaily

When your gaze found mine, the whole world swayed, As if the earth had missed a hidden beat; The sunlight suddenly grew unafraid, Then melted like warm gold around my feet. I tried to look away, but something stayed, A trembling little universe in you; My eyes became two doors I could not close, And every secret seemed to wander through. I felt my cheeks turn roses in the rain, A sudden fire underneath my skin; The stars began to whisper my sweet shame, While little suns kept blooming from within. Your eyes were not just eyes, they were a place, A strange blue room where gravity was gone; I wandered through the silence of your gaze And somehow lost the person I was on. My heartbeat stumbled, then forgot its name, It ran barefoot through corridors of light; I blushed as though the moon had called me beautiful, Then hid my face from heaven's watching sight. The trees leaned closer, jealous of the view, The flowers opened wider just to see; Even the wind became unusually shy, As thoug...

The Faces They Keep Behind Me #surrealpoetry #poetrydaily #funpoems

I noticed something strange yesterday,

people have started growing extra faces.

Not everyone, of course.

Mostly the people
who say,

"I really like you."

while their eyebrows
are secretly filing complaints.

I first discovered this
at a little café
where everyone was drinking coffee
and pretending not to listen
to everyone else's business.

The woman beside me smiled.

"What a beautiful day," she said.

I smiled back.

Then she turned around,

and I saw her second face.

It was wearing sunglasses
and whispering into a telephone.

"Yes," it said,
"she is sitting right here."

I looked behind me.

Nobody.

I looked back.

The face had disappeared.

The woman was smiling again.

"Lovely weather," she said.

I nearly swallowed my spoon.

I decided to investigate.

So I walked through the city
with my eyes wide open.

There they were,

two-faced people
walking everywhere.

One face smiled at you.

The other face
walked behind you
carrying a notebook.

Some had beautiful faces
in front,

and enormous ears
on the back.

Some had lipstick
on one face

and a moustache
on the other.

One gentleman had a face
that looked permanently surprised.

Every time he turned around,

his second face whispered,

"Did you hear what she said?"

I said no.

The face said,

"Good.

Because I was about to tell you."

I kept walking.

At the bus stop,
a man greeted me warmly.

"My friend!"

His front face
gave me a hug.

His back face
rolled its eyes so hard
I thought they might fall
into another country.

The bus arrived.

Everyone climbed aboard.

But something was wrong.

The driver had two faces.

The first said,

"Welcome!"

The second said,

"Where is everybody going
with all these opinions?"

Nobody answered.

The bus became silent.

Then suddenly,

every second face
started laughing.

Not ordinary laughing.

Great, ridiculous laughter.

One face laughed
like a broken trumpet.

Another laughed
like a goat falling down stairs.

A woman laughed so hard
her second face fell off
and rolled underneath a seat.

She quickly picked it up.

"Don't mind that," she said.

"Old problem."

I decided people were strange.

But then I reached the park.

There was a man sitting alone
on a bench.

He had no second face.

I sat beside him.

"Do you have one?" I asked.

He looked confused.

"One what?"

"A face for when people aren't looking."

He laughed.

"No.

I only have this one."

I stared at him.

He stared back.

For the first time all day,

nobody was pretending.

Then something strange happened.

Behind us,

the park trees began whispering.

"Look behind you."

We turned.

Every two-faced person
from the city
was standing there.

Hundreds of them.

Their front faces were smiling.

Their back faces were furious.

Their second faces began shouting
all at once.

"She thinks she's better than everyone!"

"He talks too much!"

"Did you see what he wore?"

"Don't trust her!"

"I was only being nice!"

"Tell me everything!"

The noise became so loud
that the clouds covered their ears.

Even the pigeons left.

Then the moon appeared
in the afternoon sky.

It looked exhausted.

It pointed at the crowd
and said,

"Why do you all need
two faces?"

The people looked at one another.

Nobody answered.

Finally,
one little girl stepped forward.

She had only one face.

She looked at everyone
and said,

"Maybe you're afraid
people won't like the real one."

Silence.

The second faces
stopped laughing.

One by one,

they began shrinking.

The enormous ears disappeared.

The moustaches vanished.

The sunglasses fell away.

The angry eyebrows
packed their bags.

Soon,

everyone had one face again.

Except the man
who had been surprised all day.

His face was still surprised.

He looked at me.

"What's happening?"

I laughed.

"Nothing.

You're just finally looking
like yourself."

He smiled.

And this time,

there was no face behind him
making a different expression.

I walked home laughing.

I had learned something important:

Some people don't need
a second face.

They simply need
a little courage
to turn around

and meet themselves.

And if they ever grow
another face again,

I hope they remember
to put a smile on both.

It's Not About You #poemaday #poetryaddict #poem

The mountain never bowed to applause, Nor did the river pause for tears. The sky has carried a thousand storms Without remembering a single face. You are a traveler, not the road. A heartbeat, not the clock. The world was already speaking Long before it learned your name. Some goodbyes bloom from seasons, Not from mistakes. Some distances are drawn by time, Not by the hands that reach across them. Don't make yourself the author Of every unfinished sentence. Some pages are left blank Because silence belongs there. There is a strange mercy In not standing at the center Of every ending, Of every change. The sun does not rise to prove a point. The stars do not dim to send a message. Life simply unfolds, Wild, indifferent, beautiful. So carry your kindness, Leave your footprints lightly, And when the world turns without asking, Smile. It's not about you. That's how it is. © 2026 Gloria Penelope

Where Her Heartbeat Remains #sadpoetry #poetryaddict #poemofgrief

She was here, for a moment too small for the clocks to measure, too brief for the world to understand, yet long enough to leave fingerprints upon a mother's soul. A baby girl. A whispered promise wrapped in fragile dreams, carried beneath a hopeful heart that had already imagined a thousand tomorrows. Then came the silence. A silence so heavy it bent the walls inward. A silence that settled inside empty rooms, inside folded blankets, inside the spaces where laughter was meant to grow. The mother wept. Not the gentle tears that fall with ordinary sadness. These were ancient tears. The kind born from a wound too deep for language, too sacred for explanation. She cried for first steps that would never mark the floor. For tiny hands that would never reach for hers. For lullabies that would remain unsung, their melodies trapped forever inside her trembling chest. Night after night, she gathered her grief like broken glass. Each memory, each dream, each unanswered prayer cut her anew. Th...

The Kind of Love That Stays #lovepoetry #poetrydaily #poetryaddict

I did not fall for you like people fall in movies. There was no thunder, no sudden music, no heaven opening its hands. You simply stayed a little longer than you should have. And somehow, that was enough. You learned the quiet parts of me, the places I keep locked, the old wounds I cover with ordinary conversation. You never asked me to explain the darkness. You sat beside it. That frightened me. Because I had spent so long believing love meant being saved, I did not know what to do with someone who could look at my brokenness and call it beautiful. Sometimes I wonder if we found each other too late. You carrying your ghosts, me carrying mine, two wounded souls pretending we were not recognizing each other. Our love was never soft. It had teeth. It lived in midnight conversations, in jealous silences, in the ache of almost losing one another. You could hurt me without raising your voice. I could break your heart with nothing more than the distance in my eyes. And still, when the night ...
